JAPI Newsletter Volume IV
A victorious voyage by an unremitting captain
By Twinkle Amparo
One school year may seem to be short for those who desire to accomplish so much. JAPI president, Eric R. Alberto, with his sidearm executive director Krishna Alejandrino and along with the entire JAPI team, are just some of those who braced a challenging year and ended victorious with significant milestones for the organization; proving once again that when collaborative energies are put together, it can stir both existing practices and new convictions into a collective whole, leaving a meaningful end to another person’s life.
Relentlessly, JAPI has shown us that when the intentions are unequivocally done with sincerity, the results are undeniably fruitful. This is the kind of leadership put into effect by Mr. Alberto that earned JAPI major accomplishments for the last school year.
As the organization welcomes the new school year, it holds in its record an 18 percent increase in the number of scholars served by the newly established organizations, i.e., Business Mentors’ Club, Junior Executive Association (the equivalent of a student council). Learning activities were implemented, i.e., participation in selected quality business seminars and exposure to international trade bazaars, one of which is the well attended SMX Asian Business Expo. Four groups of students (JA mini – companies) were able to legitimize their businesses and are currently operating.
There were more organizations that willed to exert philanthropic commitments with a 30 percent increase in corporate benefactors; FedEx alone accounted for USD 25,000 (approximately PhP 1million); not to mention the creation of a techno-bank centre and library for the scholars.
Undeniably, these accomplishments were the driving force of JAPI in sustaining the interest of both the academic and the corporate sectors in their continuous support to the organization’s purpose.
As a result of last year’s accomplishments, we can expect two significant contributions to the educational mainstream, namely (1) the implementation of a more challenging and competitive program curriculum, and (2) the inauguration of the techno-bank and library centre in August 2009.
More can be expected from JAPI as Mr. Alberto unleashes the power of relentless volunteerism, our Captain in service.

It was an emotion-filled night as JAPI officially concluded its triumphant year last March 2009, at the Petron Mega Plaza. The event was attended by distinguished guests from the academe, corporate benefactors and the spirited volunteers who served as advisers – the indefatigable mentors of the country’s young entrepreneurs.
It was the night of honouring the valued partners of JAPI. The scholars who successfully completed the course were addressed by Luis Ignacio Lopa, assistant vice president of PLDT and a member of the JAPI board of trustees.
JAPI is no less thankful for the services rendered by all its partners. Ronnie Latinazo, country manager of EMC Computer Systems and JAPI corporate secretary, was awarded the prestigious Presidential Award. Nilo Cruz, managing director of British Telecoms was likewise acknowledged for having served as president for four consecutive years. JAPI was also grateful to Alberto Villarosa, president of Security Bank Corporation and Carlos Ejercito, vice chair of United Laboratories, for their commitments and dedicated services to the organization as members of the board of trustees.
The scholars were likewise recognized for the effort they exerted during the program. Toni Lee mini-company of Miriam College received the Company of Year award and Claire Princesca C. Santos, also from Miriam College, received the President of the Year award.
The moment to reckon with is when with tearful eyes, Jose R. Facundo received the “Tanglaw ng Kabataan” Lifetime Achievement Award, for the many years he spent in service to the organization.
